Misc. Notes |
He has told the he as a child his grandfather taught him several different card games of patience. One of these games was called “Gumman Federley” Trans. The Old Lady Federley. Mikael inherited his grandfather’s father’s Alexander Ludvig Hornborg’s golden pocket-watch. The wathch was given to A. L. Hornborg by his friends on his 50th anniversary on 20 Apr 1906. The watch has an inscription which says: “För trofast heder, för manlig strid och för kärlek till fosterjord” (For trustworthy honour, for manly battle and for the love to the fatherland) The watch still works! The watch was bought in Helsinki from Lindroos & Flodström at Alexandersgatan 18. The jewellers shop still exists under the name Oscar Lindroos. With the watch goes a quaint instruction leaflet where, amongst other things, one can read: “The fact that Ladies watches seldom run as accurately as gentlemen’s is not only due to the fact that the former being smaller but also due to the fact that they are less carefully looked after”! |
