They lost nearily everything in the Turku fire. They lived in Itäkortteli 75/127 located on Vanha Hämeenkatu 14. (very close to Leena Heikeläs present home!) They fortunately had an insurance and they got compenstaed altogether with 352 riksdaler which was more than 3 years salary for Nils Jakob. The claim was dated 14.12.1827 and a ccepted and confiremd in January 1828. There is an detailed list describing item by item whar their belongins were. In the beginning of 1851 Nils Jakob was centenced to pay a fine of 3 roubles on silver in the lower court “Kämnerirätten” and later in the higher court “Hovrätten” to pay 48 roubles in silver and to go to jail for 24 days on water and bread. By his profession he was authorized to controle and stamp different types of official measutrments. The crime was that he had accepted unsufficient measurements at a higher rate than was confirmed by the government. Corruption would be the right modern word.
