On the 22 Oct 1824 the last execution in Finland took place. It was Anders Andersson who was sentenced to death after having murdered his father Anders Mattsson. Daniel Ekwall was the priest who prepered Anders for 4 weeks before the excecution and also escorted Anders to the excecution itslef which took place in Marttila/st Mårtens in Tiipilä Village in Alhaisten haka. Anders was decaptivated and 3 hits were needed to fullfill the decaptivation. In 1926 Tsar Nikolai refused to confirm death sentences which was quite rare in Finalnd. Excecutions were allways official to set a warning example for the people. There were only e few exceptions like treason, murder of leaders of friendly states or members of the Tsar family. |
